Our Strategy

Introduction

The Fish Platform is an organisation representing fishing vessel safety experts from around the world. The Platform facilitates communications and supports for its members and has the aim of ensuring that members can benefit from the support of peers and that they can act as a collective voice.

The Fish Platform offers the participants a chance to seek support and encouragement on their own work, but also to contribute towards the Fish Platforms strategy.

Strategy

The Fish Platform has the following long-term goals:

  1. To see all fishing vessels regardless of size fishing in foreign EEZ’s or exporting their catch internationally, direct or indirect, applying the international baseline standards.
  2. To develop and support supply chain transparency of ethical and safety standards, and
  3. To support activities that eliminate or at least reduce IUU fishing in relation with safety and health of fishing vessel personnel, as well as their human and labour rights.
  4. To initiate and support improvement of international baseline standards in relation with safety and health of fishing vessel personnel, as well as their human and labour rights.

Method

Our strategy is high level, but at each meeting of the fish platform priority will be given to agenda items that further any of the stated strategic objectives. Our aim is that the platform helps to influence participants national agenda’s and also encourage and support change in international policy.

Our members are encouraged:

  • to share information that contributes improving the safety and health of fishers on board;
  • to promote the collection of reliable data on numbers of accidents and near misses in fisheries and its causes; and
  • where possible, to harmonize existing resources and requirements concerning the safety and health of fishers.

Scope

Any organization in the world that has an interest in the safety and health of fishers is free to participate in the FISH Platform.
